Upgrading my computer

I have a new, long-term project - upgrading my computer.

I have been planning to give myself a new video card for my birthday (in 2 weeks). After looking at the specs for games coming out in the next year, I decided I need to upgrade my processor as well. That would not be a problem, except that the chips my motherboard can accept are only slighly better than what I have. So I need a new motherboard, too. Eventually, I also want to add more memory.

I anticipate this taking about a year, just so I can space out the large purchases. (Graphics card - $200. Motherboard and processor - $300-400. Memory I'm not sure about.)

If you're updating parts and haven't already thought of it, may I suggest checking the Dulles Expo Center? They have their Market Pro Computer Show & Sale May 30-June 1; I've attended with emcic and there are some good deals to be had. It costs to get in ($7 for adults), but there are better deals there sometimes than even MicroCenter can offer.

We're going; we need parts for mine and Middle's computers.

Yep - I'm hoping to get a new motherboard, since we haven't gotten around to getting his out of the box and to mine. :)

I'll check that out. Problem is, I know what graphics card I want, but have no idea on processor or MB. I'm also not ready yet to buy the MB and processory, and probably won't be until Fall.

If you can make it out, it's worth a look, I think. That way, even if you can't buy, you get a good idea. And the show should be back later this year - I think this is its second time running through Dulles so far in 2008.
